Abstract

1304261 Draft load sensing means DAVID BROWN TRACTORS Ltd 19 April 1971 [21 Jan 1970] 2853/70 Heading A1P A tractor power lift mechanism incorporates draft sensing means consisting of two mutually laterally spaced leaf springs 11, secured to the lower rear part of the tractor frame 10. Springs 11 flex only longitudinally of the tractor, each spring 11 consisting of arms 12, 13 extending down to hitch pin 15 secured to arms 12, 13 by eye bolts 16 which pass through holes in arms 12, 13 and pin 15. A hitch pin 15, secured to each spring 11 by nuts 19 on eye bolts 16 are connected by ball joint 21 to a lower hitch link 20 of the three link hitch. Eye bolts 16 are provided with eyelet holes 23 which hold a check pin which is located between two stops 24 on tractor frame 10 to limit movement of spring 11. Facing ends of hitch pins 15 are connected through links 26, 27 to signalling portion 28 which has two co-axial rods 29, 30 rotatably mounted in links 26, 27, the rods 29, 30 having cranked ends 31, 32 connected to links 26, 27. Cranked ends 33, connected to the other ends of rods 29, 30, are connected to respective links 34, 35, the ends remote from rods 29, 30 being attached to pin 36 which passes through a cranked end 37 of an output member 38 of signalling unit 28 Thus movement of spring 11 is sensed by unit 28. In another embodiment, a bar member joins the two hitch links and leaf springs; a signal proportional to the varying deflection of the mid-point of the bar is transmitted to the tractor power lift mechanism. Another embodiment makes use of a single leaf spring transverse to the tractor, replacing leaf springs 11, the transverse spring being attached at its mid-point to tractor frame 10 and having cantilever ends.
