Abstract

1303063 Reels BP CHEMICALS Ltd and ENFIELD-STANDARD POWER CABLES Ltd 7 May 1970 [5 May 1969] 22778/69 Heading B8M A reel for filamentary material, e.g. cable, comprises a continuous corrugated channel made by bending a transversely corrugated channel of plastics material back on itself and joining the ends together. The plastics material may be polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene or polystyrene. The corrugations in the channel may be such that the outer peripheries of the side walls of the reel are substantially flattened. The ends may be joined by spot welding, and a hole may be made by a heated rod in the base of the channel in order that the filamentary material may be attached to the reel. The ends of the channel may be held together by means of the filamentary material wound on the reel. The corrugated channel may be made by extruding a corrugated tube and splitting the tube longitudinally to form two channels.
