Abstract
1300309 Magnetic separators BRITISH TITAN Ltd 8 Sept 1971 [16 Sept 1970] 44187/ 70 Heading B2J A magnetic separator comprises a disc-like separation member 2 of non-magnetic or paramagnetic material rotatably mounted and presenting an upper surface inclined downwardly so as to comprise a separation zone 12 in the area of magnets 11 situated under the disc-like member 2 and a removal zone 13 provided with means such as a rotatable brush 25 and spray 29 to remove iron or other magnetically susceptible material therefrom, means such as weir and feed pipes 14-17 to feed liquid containing iron or other magnetically susceptible material to be separated to the separation zone at or near the centre of the disc-like member 2 and means 19, 20 to collect separately the treated liquid and the iron or other separated material. The liquid may for example comprise aqeous suspensions of pigmentary titanium dioxide containing traces of iron material. The disc-like member 2 may be formed of aluminium or synthetic plastics which latter may be reinforced for example with glass fibre, brass, aluminium or certain stainless steels. The magnets 11 may be permanent magnets or electro-magnets. The disc may be driven through a friction drive 7, 8 by an electric motor 10. Alternatively the drive may engage with the periphery of the member 2. Radial ribs may be provided on the member 2.
