Abstract

1300348 Beverage machine PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 19 April 1971 [26 March 1970] 25030/71 Heading A4E [Also in Division F2] A valve designed for use in a coffee-making machine, comprises a housing 2, 3 formed with a lateral port 7 and enclosing a ball valve member 4 and a star-shaped abutment 5, the housing itself being enclosed within a flexible and tubular sleeve 1. Under normal operating conditions, flow from the sleeve inlet end 9 to the sleeve outlet end 8 is readily achieved as the ball valve becomes unseated on being subjected to a so directioned pressure differential. However, a reverse pressure differential up to a predetermined value causes the ball to engage its seat and so to prevent reverse flow. Over this predetermined value, the sleeve 1 flexes in the vicinity of the port 7 and then allows a reverse flow as indicated by the arrow P. The coffee-machine is said to include a water container, a rapid water-heater, and a collecting vessel below a filter into which water, after passing through the heater discharges, from the open end of a conduit above the filter, the valve abovedescribed being mounted in a conduit connecting the water-container and the water-heater.
