Abstract
1399030 Photographic silver halide bleachfixing process AGFA-GEVAERT A G 8 Dec 1972 [8 Dec 1971 25 Jan 1972] 56885/72 Heading G2C A continuous bleach-fixing process comprises spraying a chromogenically developed colour photographic silver halide material which contains residues of colour developer in the presence of oxygen with a solution of a bleach-fix bath containing the iron complex of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid as bleaching agent and sodium or ammonium thiosulphate as fixing agent, bleach-fixing being effected at a pH of 6-8 and at a redox potential which is more positive by up to 100 mV than the potential of a 1:1 mixture of the divalent and trivalent iron complex of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, the redox potential of the bleach-fix bath being adjusted by the addition of a reducing agent before and after spraying and the bleach-fix solution being recycled. The reducing agent may be an alkali metal dithionite, alkali metal or zinc formaldehyde sulphoxylate (e.g. Na HSO 2 . CH 2 O. 2H 2 O), hydrazine, hydroxylamine or a salt thereof. The addition of reducing agent may be regulated automatically by means of a redox measuring chain e.g. a combination of a redox potential measurement and a pH measurement. An optical brightener e.g. a stilbene, stilbene triazole or stilbene triazine may be added to the bleach-fix bath or be present in a final bath (see Ex. 3).
