Abstract

1398975 Diphenyl methane diisocyanate IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 31 July 1972 [16 Aug 1971] 38288/71 Heading C2C Diphenyl methane diisocyanate and a methylene bridged polyphenyl polyisocyanate composition are simultaneously produced from a crude methylene bridged polyphenyl polyisocyanate by heat-treating the crude polyisocyanate at from 180‹ to 280‹ C., distilling off a fore-run fraction comprising substantially diisocyanate of from 2 to 9% by weight of the mixture, subjecting the residual material to partial distillation in a thin film processor under reduced pressure and removing diphenyl methane diisocyanate by distillation therein to leave as recoverable residue a mixture of methylene bridged polyphenyl polyisocyanate.
