Abstract

1398247 Easels H R MILLEN 27 April 1973 20270/73 Heading A4H An easel comprises a support such as a tripod 200, Fig. 1, having a head 21 with a horizontal support face (29), and a framing device for mounting a picture 65, 67 &c. detachably mounted on the head in either an upright, Fig. 1, or a horizontal, Fig. 16, condition, the device comprising a first elongate framing means 48, 52 having first and second mounting bases 32, 38 and 72 that abut the head 21 in the upright and horizontal conditions of the device, respectively, and second framing means 64 mounted transversely of the first means 48, 52. The bases are connected to the head by threaded means (20) and the bases have locating pins (36) engageable in holes (28, 28a) in the head or in an index plate attached thereto see Figs. 5, 6 (not shown). The first framing means 48, 52 is telescopically adjustable, and the second base 72 and the second framing means 64 are slideable thereon. In a modification, Figs. 7-10 (not shown) the second framing means comprises a pair of arms (74) pivoted to the second mounting base (102) and carrying slideable spring- loaded picture bracing bridge means (78). In another form, Fig. 13, the second framing means comprises a board 111 slideably mounting gripper shafts 124, 125 with picture holding points 126, 127 and having rigid, pivotable or retractable picture-engaging pins 118. In a further modification, the second framing means each have folding arms (86), Fig. 17 (not shown). An attachment means 60 on the first framing means can mount a lamp 98, a sunshade or a microphone.
