1397120 Furniture frames; seats J A SPEIDEL 16 June 1972 [23 Aug 1971] 28378/72 Headings A4H and A4J A seat comprising a seat part 11, Fig.2, a back part 12 and back and seat connecting parts 14 has the assembly of parts made developable, i.e. unfoldable without stretching, crumpling or tearing, into a unitory flat pattern, e.g. as in Fig.3, the parts being ruled surfaces, i.e. surfaces formed by a straight line generatrix, in which rule lines of respective surfaces meet rule lines of adjacent surfaces upon the contour of the seat, the images of said meeting rule lines when projected on the pattern also meeting on the pattern, e.g. rule lines pivoting between folds 21, 16 to form surface 14 and rule lines pivoting from 16 to a vertical position to form a side part of back 12 meet at the intersection of lines 16, 21; and in which rule lines of said surfaces meet at other than a straight line extending from edge to edge of the contour, the images of such rule lines also meeting at other than a straight line extending from edge to edge of the pattern, e.g. vertical rule lines forming the back 12 meet rule lines forming the seat 11 along curve 18. Various embodiments formed by folding a shaped metal sheet are shown and described. Cantilever or the normal four legs may be attached to the seat.
