Abstract

1396531 Non-woven fabric ROHM & HAAS CO 14 April 1972 [16 April 1971] 17366/72 Heading D1R [Also in Division C3] Non-woven fabrics are bonded with at least 5% of a compound comprising (a) at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer containing an amino group (the nitrogen atom of which is attached to a carbon atom of a 1, 3, 5-triazine ring), a carboxylamido group or a ureido group, the nitrogen atom of such amino, carboxylamido or ureido group being substituted by a methylol or alkoxymethyl group, (b) at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer having a sulphur-containing acid or salt group and containing no basic nitrogen atom, and (c) the balance of at least one other monoethylenically unsaturated monomer which contains no basic nitrogen atoms or sulphur-containing acid or salt group. The treated fabrics may be obtained by impregnating the non-woven fabric with an aqueous dispersion of the copolymer, drying the fabric and curing at 210‹F to 750‹F. Many fibres are specified. In examples, pieces of cotton or viscose corded or airlaid batts are treated with copolymers derived from (a) N-methylol(meth)acrylamide, N-methylol-4-pentenoguanamine, N-methylolbeta-ureidoethylacrylate, N-methylol-4-pentenamide, N-methylol-allyl guanamine, N-methoxy-methyl-4-pentenoguanamine, (b) sodium vinyl sulphonate, 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-propanesulphonic acid sodium salt, methacryloxyisopropyl acid sulphophthalate, the 1:1 adduct of butylene glycol dimethacrylate and sodium bisulphite, sodium allyl sulphonate, potassium styrene sulphonate, ammonium acryloxyethyl sulphopropionate, sodium acryloxyethyl-o-sulphobenzoate, sodium salt of acryloxyethyl acid 3, 5-disulphophthalate, sodium salt of 8-acryloxyoctyl acid 3, 5-disulphophthalate and the ammonium salt of acryloxyethoxy ethoxyethyl acid-4-sulphophthalate, and (c) is ethylacrylate, acrylamide, methylacrylate, acrylonitrile, acrylic acid, betahydroxyethylacrylate, isopropylacrylate and propyl acrylate.
