Abstract
1396179 Sunglasses R J NELSON 21 Dec 1972 [29 Dec 1971] 59155/72 Heading G2J A sunglass lens made of plastics material has a viewing pane 12 flanked by masking panes 11,13 which contain louvers. It is formed from a plane laminate in which the louvers extend perpendicular to the plane, and which is then heated and bent so that in the finished lens the louvers are tipped upwards and downwards respectively above and below the viewing pane 12 at progressively increasing angles to the horizontal as their distance from the viewing pane 12 increases. The front surface of the lens carries a scratchresistant layer such as cellulose acetate butyrate or polycarbonate. The rear face carries a thicker strengthening layer of the same material tinted grey. The lens carries a silicone rubber or moulded vinyl nose piece 29, and is completely surrounded by peripheral foam sealing means 26, 27. The lens is secured to the head of the wearer by straps 21,22 which are fastened together by multiple hook material.
