Abstract

1395908 Spot-type brake discs; squealpreventing GIRLING Ltd 15 June 1972 [18 June 1971] 28596/71 Heading F2E A disc for a spot-type disc brake incorporates means for damping high-frequency squealproducing vibrations consisting of an annular metal band 9, which is spaced from the base of a peripheral annular groove 5 in a disc 1, 2, 3, by one or more rings of relatively distortable and compressible thermally insulating material with which the band is in contact. As shown there are two rings 8 under the band 9, each consisting of woven or stranded asbestos cord and partly accommodated in an annular recess 7; these rings reduce the transmission of heat from the disc to the band. As shown, the disc consists of two rings 1, 2 joined by radial webs 3 to leave radial ventilating passages 4; openings 10 in band 9 register with passages 4. The recesses 7 may be omitted and the two rings 8 replaced by a single ring of rectangular section occupying the full width of groove 5.
