Abstract
1394745 Supply systems for storage heaters POTTERTON INTERNATIONAL Ltd 12 Sept 1973 [13 June 1972] 27540/72 Heading H2H Storage heating apparatus which uses cheap tariff electricity to heat a storage mass 1, 2, 3 during a night period and transfers the stored heat to a circulating liquid in a space heating system comprises electrical resistance heat exchange means adapted, upon a demand for heat by the space heating system during a night period or during a day period when the storage mass is incapable of satisfying the demand, to heat the liquid directly and a relay switch 19, 20 for reducing the current loading of the direct heating means during a night period with respect to that during a day period. A fan 4 transfers the stored heat to the circulating liquid when called to do so by a room temperature thermostat RS. If the air temperature falls below 150 F. a thermostat 14 closes to energize a relay 9, 10 thereby enabling a boiler in the form of a resistance heater to directly heat the circulating liquid. A further reduction of the air temperature below 120 F. causes a thermostat 18 to close so that a relay 16, 17 is energized to enable an additional boiler in the form of a resistance heater to directly heat the circulating liquid. During the night period, the relay 19, 20 is energized to prevent operation of the fan 4 and to prevent energization of the relay 16, 17 by opening the contacts 19. Only the boiler connected to the relay 9, 10 is therefore operative during the night period and the current supply to the storage mass 1, 2, 3 is cut off by a regulator 8 when the storage mass attains a predetermined temperature.
