Abstract
1393967 Purifying sulphur SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 28 April 1972 [30 April 1971] 19876/72 Heading C1A A method for reducing the amount of hydrogen sulphide dissolved as hydrogen polysulphide in liquid sulphur, which comprises injecting, separately or in admixture, sulphur dioxide and an additive which is an alkali metal compound or ammonia or an ammonium compound or a basic organic compound with at least one amino group into the liquid sulphur whilst this is flowing through a conduit. The additive may be capable of complexing or partially complexing with the sulphur dioxide. Suitable additives include alkali metal phosphates or sulphates, alkylamines, alkanolamines, cyclohexylamine, alkeneamines. Alkeneamines which are useful include propylenediamine, urea and diisopropanolamine.
