Abstract

1393528 Storage battery plates JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 19 May 1972 [1 June 1971] 18487/71 Heading H1B A battery plate 11 for a lead-acid storage battery, includes lead-acid battery paste 13 mounted directly on a non-conductive support 12, and a layer of fibrous material 14 provided on the paste 13, wherein the fibrous material 14 includes glass fibres arranged in the form of a woven or non-woven tissue and containing lead to provide the necessary electrical conductivity for the battery plate. The lead may be provided as a coating either over at least one surface of the glass fibre tissue or over the individual fibres of the tissue. In the manufacture of such battery plates, synthetic resin support grids 12 are moved along a conveyer, Fig. 2 (not shown), pasted with the lead-acid battery paste, passed beneath a sonotrode and a heated doctor blade and the fibrous tissue is then fed from a drum on to the pasted grid face, the plates then being fed to an oven for drying.
