Abstract

1393594 Removing metal values ROHM & HAAS CO 19 May 1972 [28 May 1971] 23567/72 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] A cation exchange process for removing cations from a liquid comprises contacting the liquid with a cross-linked macroreticular cation exchange resin having at least one group of the formula wherein X is a ring stabilizing group selected from Cl, Br, I and F and M<SP>+</SP> is a hydrogen ion, an ammonium (including alkyl ammonium) ion or a metal cation, and n is an integer from 1 to 4. In the example a macroporous copolymer of chlorostyrene and divinyl benzene containing sulphonic acid groups, is used to remove chromium (III), ion (III), copper (II), Ni (II) and Al (III) from a spent chromium plating bath.
