Abstract
1391981 High-current switches; arc rupturing KAFAK AB 6 April 1972 [7 April 1971] 15798/72 Heading H1N A switch has open arcing contacts 16, 22, 24 which are closed prior to the opening of main current-carrying contacts 14, 18, 20 connected in parallel therewith, and are subsequently re-opened within 15 milliseconds of being closed, the moving contacts being operated by cams 28, 30 on a common shaft 26. The contacts 16, 22, 24 may be disposed in an arcing chamber. The switch may be provided with a plurality of main contacts connected in parallel and a plurality of arcing contacts connected in series with each other and one or more resistors or capacitors. Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). The arcing contacts may be plated with tungsten and the other contact surfaces may be of copper or silver. The shaft may be driven by an electromagnetic device or an electric motor.
