Abstract

1391572 Obtaining tin or bismuth PROEKTNY I NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT GIPRONIKEL 29 Jan 1973 [28 Jan 1972] 4419/73 Heading C7D Tin, bismuth, and possibly lead and zinc, are obtained by sublimation from tin- and bismuthbearing materials in a fuming furnace by a process wherein portions of the charge are regularly added as solids to the furnace during each cycle and a fuel-air mixture is blown through the furnace concurrently with the smelting process taking place throughout the cycle. At the end of a cycle a proportion of the resulting slag is retained for the next cycle. The fuel-air mixture is injected at differing rates during each cycle at 1.2 to 1.7 times theoretical air consumption rate during smelting and blowing and at 0.9,to 1.0 times during a slag improving period. The process is particularly suited for the treatment of lean sulphide concentrates.
