Abstract

1391439 Mineral-mining cutter drams; dust suppression in mines FLETCHER SUTCLIFFE WILD Ltd 7 Dec 1972 [11 Dec 1971 6 Jan 1972] 57638/71 and 706/72 Heading E1F A rotary coal cutter comprises a drum 3 and a helical cutting implement 2 having a recessed, outer peripheral face recessed for the mounting of pick boxes 21 thereon and provided with orifices 18 that are fed with dust-suppressing liquid passing from the interior of the drum into a reservoir 15 extending along substantially the length of the implement and connected to the orifices by passages 17. Preferably the implement 2 is formed by abutting segments 1 and the reservoir 15 is formed by slots extending lengthwise of the segments. The slots may either be in communication with one another or isolated from one another and may each be formed within the confines of the radial walls of a segment or by a wall of a segment and an abutting plate. The cutter may have an end cutter disc 40 also provided with passages for the conveyance of dust-suppressing liquid to the vicinity of pick boxes mounted on the disc in a circle about the axis of rotation of the cutter. The liquid may be supplied from tubes spaced around the inside of the drum parallel to the axis thereof, the tubes being so welded into slots in the wall of the drum that the outer faces of the tubes are flush with the outer peripheral face of the drum.
