Abstract

1391147 Handles W E HIDDING 6 Sept 1973 42043/73 Heading B8P A handle, particularly for a peak-roofed carton 12 having an upstanding ridge 18, comprises a band 30 having side members 32, 34 and an interconnecting top member 36, together with fastening elements 22, 24 at the ends of the band, elements being secured together through an aperture in the ridge 18. The shape of the handle is determined by an upstanding reinforcing rib 42 which extends over the whole length of the band, portions of the rib adjacent the ends of the band being thinner than the central portion which extends over the top member 36 and the upper parts of side members 32, 34. A peg on the fastening element 24 passes through the hole in the ridge 18 and through a corresponding hole in the element 22, the-end of the peg being headed to secure the parts together. The handle is secured at a point on the ridge 18 which is off-centre so that for storage purposes the handle may be pivoted to lie over the end of the caton roof. When the handle is pivoted in the opposite direction, a recess 54 in the upper member 36 embraces the upper edge of the ridge 18 and so holds the carton closed after the seal has been broken.
