Abstract
1390374 Carriage for transportation apparatus MAATSCHAPPIJ VOOR INDUSTRIELE RESEARCH EN ONTWIKKELING NV 10 April 1972 [15 April 1971] 14772/74 Divided out of 1390373 Heading B7L A carriage, for transportation apparatus, is provided with travelling wheels 20, 21, Fig. 11, arranged to engage and partially embrace two parallel, elongate track elements, and a driving wheel 68<SP>1</SP> which is resiliently biased and movable in a direction which, in use, is towards and perpendicular to one of the track elements, the driving wheel 68<SP>1</SP> engaging this track element to propel the carriage. The rotational axes of all of the travelling wheels and driving wheel lie perpendicular to the plane in which the track elements lie. The wheels are all grooved to locate the carriage relative to the track and the driving wheel, as shown at 68 on Fig. 9, may be provided with drive means within the groove 69 to engage the element shown at 71. Friction drive means are formed by spaced rings 70, 70<SP>1</SP> of material having a high coefficient of friction which are spaced on either side of a circumferential series of pins 72. Along some sections of track, particularly vertical sections, the elements are provided with pins which engage in the openings between the pins 72 to propel the carriage when the wheel 68 is driven by an electric motor 66 and transmission 67. Referring again to Fig. 11, a driving unit 73<SP>1</SP> comprising wheel 68<SP>1</SP>, motor 66<SP>1</SP> and transmission 671 is mounted on a fastening plate 163 which is guided in guide slots 166 in two guide blocks 167 by means of guide pins 165 carried by the plate 163. The pins 165 are also guided by corresponding apertures in bent-over edges 169 of a slidable second fastening plate 170, which carries a carrier 174 having a guide slot 173 for a pin connected to a pressure roller 175, which is movably biased by spring tension for engagement against the other track element to provide the resilient biasing of the driving wheel 68<SP>1</SP>. The travelling wheels 20, 21 are connected in pairs which are pivotally mounted on the carriage, so as to ensure correctly aligned contact of the wheels against the track elements in curved portions of the track.
