Abstract
1388669 Removal of nitrogen oxides from gas streams E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 23 Oct 1972 [21 Oct 1971] 48760/72 Heading C1A [Also in Division C5] The concentration of nitrogen oxides in a gas containing said oxides at a state of oxidation (as defined), of at least 50% is reduced by mixing with an ammonia-containing gas the molar ratio of ammonia to said oxides (calculated as NO) is at least 1À0, and with water in an amount of at least 0À1% of the entire gaseous mixture, the ammonia and nitrogen oxides reacting and thereafter heating the reaction products to cause them to decompose. Reaction with the ammonia is preferably carried out at a temperature of less than 100‹ C. for at least 5 seconds, and the decomposition is carried out at at least 200‹ C. The molar ratio of ammonia to the nitrogen oxides is preferably at least 1À20. The process may be carried out batchwise or continuously.
