Abstract
1388330 Medicines and cosmetics comprising silicon compounds J GUEYNE 23 Oct 1972 [25 Oct 1971] 48791/72 Heading ASB [Also in Division C3] Pharmaceutical compositions giving protection against radiation, having a stimulating effect on connective tissue and also useful as cosmetics and anti-inflammatory agents comprise aqueous solutions of organo-silicic compounds of the formula R x Si(OH) 4-x , wherein R denotes an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic (including heterocyclic-aromatic) group, M denotes an alkali metal or a hydrogen atom and x is 1, 2 or 3, said solutions being stable at temperatures of up to 120‹C, having a pH of below 13 and being obtained by adding an aqueous alkaline solution of said organo-silicic compound to an aqueous solution of a compound of the formula R'OH containing at least one alcoholic and/or phenolic hydroxy group and wherein R' denotes an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic (including heterocyclic aromatic) group, and subsequently adjusting the final pH to a value of below 13 with a cation-exchange resin. The compositions are preferably formulated into dosage units containing 0.01 to 0.1g of active substance. Administration may be by electrophorsis, intramuscular, intravenous, percutaneous, in compresses, by massage or in eye-wash or eye baths.
