Abstract
1387610 Laminates ASAHI-DOW Ltd 23 Oct 1972 48628/72 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Laminates may be prepared using as adhesive metal-containing copolymers prepared by saponifying a copolymer of ethylene with 1 to 20 mole per cent of an ester of an unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acid with a basic metal compound in a liquid medium comprising an aliphatic alcohol or mixture thereof with another organic solvent to produce a product having a degree of saponification of 30 to 100% and a degree of neutralization of 60 to 100%, and further treating the product with an acid to reduce the degree of neutralization to 1 to 10%. In Examples (7) a film of a product obtained by saponifying an ethylene/methyl methacrylate copolymer with sodium hydroxide in toluene/ isopropanol and treating with acetic acid is interposed between aluminium foil and polyethylene sheet which are bonded with heat and pressure, and (8) sheets of a product obtained by saponifying an ethylene/ethyl acrylate copolymer with sodium hydroxide in isopropanol/ sec butanol and treating with acetic acid are bonded to aluminium foil and polyethylene sheet.
