1386876 Bactericidal compositions DOW CORNING CORP 16 May 1972 [4 Oct 1971 14 Feb 1972] 22884/72 Heading A5E A bactericidal composition consists essentially of (1) a surface active agent of the formula E(OSO 3 M) e or E(SO 2 OM) c in which M is an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, the ammonium group or hydrocarbyl or hydroxy hydrocarbyl-substituted ammonium group, e is 1, 2 or 3, and E is a hydrocarbon group or a substituted hydrocarbon group of sufficient size to cause (1) to act as a surface active agent, and (2) an organosilicon quaternary compound of the formulae: or (D) copolymers or mixtures of at least two mol percent of (C) units, the remaining siloxane units in said copolymer or mixture being of the formula: in which compounds X is a hydrolyzable group or OH, R is a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radical or an aralkylene radical of 1 to 20 carbon atoms, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are each independently monovalent aliphatic or aralkyl hydrocarbon radicals of 1 to 22 carbon atoms, a hydroxy alkyl radical of 2 to 22 carbon atoms or the trivalent radical: in which the three free valences are attached to N, except that in (A) at least one R or R' radical shall have at least nine carbon atoms and in (A') either R shall have at least nine carbon atoms or the three R<SP>4</SP> shall total at least nine carbon atoms or both, p is 0 or 1, f is 2 or 3, R" and R"' are independently monovalent hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon radicals of 1 to 6 carbon atoms or the OH radical, Y is a halogen atom, z is 1 or 2, n is 1, 2 or 3 m and d are each 0, 1 or 3 except that in (C) but not (D) m is 1 or 2, and a is 0, 1, 2 or 3, in (D) a being at least one when m is 0.
