Abstract
1386667 Sintering furnace WICKMAN WIMET Ltd 22 May 1973 [9 June 1972] 27121/72 Heading F4B [Also in Division C7] Cemented carbides are sintered under a pulsating non-oxidizing or reducing gas, e.g. H 2 ŒN 2 or inert gas optionally with methane in a furnace comprising a carbon susceptor 4, insulating material 5, silica sleeve 6 and induction coil 7. The furnace is connected to gas inlet 9, vacuum connection 12 and pressure sensors 13, 14 are connected to valves in inlet 9 and connection 12. The compacts are stacked on trays 15 and after evacuating, H 2 is introduced via 9, to a pressure of 700 torr. and the compacts are heated. At 700 torr. the valve in inlet 9 is automatically closed and the vacuum line 12 is opened to reduce the pressure to 100 torr. The cycling is continued for 12 cycles while heating up to 900‹ C. The H 2 is then evacuated and normal vacuum sintering is then effected.
