1386554 Boots &c D POST 14 Feb 1973 [29 Aug 1972] 7268/73 Heading A3B A ski-boot comprises a lever 12 which extends to the upper portion 18 of the lower leg 15 of the wearer; means attached to the lower end of the lever 12 to hold the foot of the wearer (e.g. shoe 11) and means 13, 14 at the upper end of the lever 12 which engage the wearer's leg and restrain it from both lateral and longitudinal movement relative to the lever but allow the leg to twist relative to the lever. Abutments 16, 17 are provided to enable a ski to be attached to the boot. A flexible insulating and water proofing jacket (23) may extend around the leg and a heel retaining strap (21) may be provided (Fig. 2, not shown) The lever 12 may have an exchangeable leaf-spring insert to allow alteration of its flexibility (Fig. 3, not shown). The lever may be pivoted, in the region of the ankle joint, to the remainder of the boot and have a screw adjustment of the angle of forward lean (Fig. 4, not shown). In modifications (Figs. 5, 7, not shown) the lever can pivot between two adjustable stops with resilience provided by an adjustable spring. The stops may be made inoperative to provide fully free pivoting of the lever to facilitate walking. The lever may be made integral with the shoe portion and extend in front of the wearer's leg (Fig. 11, not shown) or the lever may be pivoted in the ankle region with adjustable resilience, adjustable limits of forward lean and the ability to hinge freely, Fig. 12 (and Figs. 14, 15 not shown). The lever 12 may be able to cant laterally using the mechanism of Figs. 16, 17 (not shown).
