Abstract
1386363 Two stroke I C engines S ONISHI 11 Feb 1972 [25 Feb 1971] 6615/72 Heading FIB A two stroke electrical ignition type I. C. engine comprises an exhaust, port 4 and a scavenging port 3 opened and closed by the motion of a piston 2 in a cylinder 1, a combustion recess 15 in cylinder head 14 being located in the central region thereof and shaped to gradually deepen in the intended direction of gas flow, the open end of the recess not being narrower than any portion of it within the cylinder head and the engine also comprising valves 8, 6 to control the rate of fuel supply and exhaust gas flow, the valves being connected to open or close in conjunction with one another. The combustion chamber is shaped so that as the piston approaches t.d.c. the mixture is squished into the recess 15. The size of pre-chamber 20 upstream of valve 6 is chosen to assist efficient combustion and smooth running. The coupling of valves 7 and 8 also allows operation with a lower compression ratio than otherwise. Instead of supplying fuel via a carburetter 26, the fuel may be injected into the intake pipe, the crank-case or into the cylinder.
