1386237 Rotary positive-displacement machines DOWTY HYDRAULIC UNITS Ltd 18 May 1972 [18 May 1971] 15531/71 Heading F1F In an hydraulic gear pump, or motor, erosion due to shock waves in leakage fluid between bearing bushes 20 - 23 and the casing 11 is minimized by grooves 49 formed in either the bushes or the casing and communicating with the low-pressure port 12. Slots 39 determine the circumferential extent of high-pressure areas 60, 61 on faces 38 of the bushes adjacent the gears. Pressure-loading chambers 34, 35 for the bushes communicate with the high-pressure port 13. Shafts 16 - 19 for the gears 14, 15 are lubricated by a proportion of the fluid at the port 12 being sucked into expanding spaces between the meshing gear-teeth by way of the grooves 49, ports 53, chambers 36, 37, grooves 55 and slots 57.
