Abstract

1383114 Magnetrons ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO Ltd 17 May 1973 [22 June 1972] 29227/72 Heading H1D The coaxial cavity of a coaxial magnetron is formed with spaced regions of substantially different electric field intensity, and includes at least one dielectric tuning member carried by a rotary member to produce a cyclic frequency variation when rotated to pass successively through the spaced regions. As shown, the outer wall of the coaxial cavity may have inwardly directed projections 41 to increase the local electric field intensity, and the tuning member may be formed by two dielectric members 52 either forming.part of a continuous dielectric cylinder 5 of lower dielectric constant, or mounted separately on a disc 51. In a modified arrangement (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown), the projections 41 may be radially slotted mid-way along their axial length, the dielectric members 52 having radially projecting portions (61) at their upper ends to pass through the slots. More than two projections and dielectric members may be employed.
