Abstract
1381639 Injection moulding M OFUSA 28 June 1972 [2 July 1971] 30268/72 Heading B5A To reduce surface distortions due to uneven shrinkage an article is moulded by injecting a molten thermoplastic resin, at a velocity low enough to avoid turbulent flow, into a mould maintained at 0‹ to 60‹ C., and increasing the pressure on the melt when the mould is filled in order to force more molten material into the mould as the outer portion shrinks and solidifies due to cooling by the mould, thereby to confine the void or voids produced by further shrinkage to occur only in the centre. Polyolefins, polyacrylates, polyamide, polyester, ABS, PVC, styrene resins and fluorinated resins are injected by a screw or ram type injector into a mould having no sharp angle to produce a chair frame at a variety of speeds and temperatures.
