Abstract
1379734 Detergent composition containing citrate builder ELDIB ENG & RESEARCH Inc 4 June 1971 [27 April 1971] 18955/71 Heading C5D A detergent composition comprising (A) at least one organic surfactant and (B) a builder comprising a water-soluble alkali metal or ammonium salt of citric acid and (C) an alkalizing agent which is sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium sesquicarbonate or mixtures thereof wherein the weight ratio of (B) to (A) is in the range of 1 : 5 to 10 : 1 and the surfactant is (i) a zwitterionic surfactant, (ii) an ampholytic surfactant, (iii) a polyethylene oxide condensate of an alkyl phenol, (iv) a polyethylene oxide condensate of an aliphatic alcohol, (v) an alkali metal alkyl benzene sulphonate, (vi) a sodium or potassium salt of a sulphuric acid ester of the product formed by the reaction of one mole of a higher fatty alcohol with 1 to 6 moles of ethylene oxide or (vii) a sodium or potassium salt of an alkyl phenol ethylene oxide ether sulphate with 1 to 10 moles of ethylene oxide per molecule. When the component (C) is sodium carbonate, the wt. ratio of citrate to sodium carbonate is 12 to 1 to 1 to 15. Other builders such as sodium silicate and sodium polyphosphate may be present, together with conventional adjuvants. Preferred compositions are phosphate-free.
