Abstract

1378989 Stabilizers CLARK EQUIPMENT CO 22 Dec 1972 [27 Dec 1971] 59467/72 Heading B7J [Also in Divisions El and B8] An outrigger for a material handling apparatus such as a crane comprises a jack system having a housing (formed by a casting 26 and a cap 56) attached to the distal end of a beam 19, a vertically-movable threaded shaft 36 within the housing and threadedly engaged by a drive ring 45 having an external worm gear 47, a worm shaft 53 mating with the worm gear and drivable by drive means such as an hydraulic motor (54), Fig. 2 (not shown), and a ground-engaging float 41 at the bottom of the shaft 36 which is raised or lowered by rotation of the drive ring 45 when the worm shaft 53 is driven. The casting 26 is connected to the float 41 at a horizontal pivot 42 and has a cradle 27 receiving an end plate 23 of the beam 19, which is secured to a flange 29 of the casting 26 by bolts 31. A cup-shaped upper portion 34 of the casting 26 accommodates the ring 45 and has an elongated housing portion 52 for the worm shaft 53. Cap 56, which has a breather 67, is threadedly received in the portion 34 and connected thereby by an eye-bolt 62 which is secured to a flange 65 of the portion 34 by a bolt 64. The eye-bolt 62 is received in one of several radially extending apertures 60 in the cap 56 so as to locate the cap 56 and portion 34 in alignment. The top wall of cap 56 carries a stop 68 for the shaft 36 and the cap retains a roller bearing 49 seated on top of the drive ring 45.
