Abstract
1377797 Rolling diaphragm gas springs combined with telescopic shock absorbers FICHTEL & SACHS AG 12 April 1972 [14 April 1971] 16845/72 Heading F2S A hydropneumatic piston-cylinder tubewithin-a-tube shock-absorber is combined with a rolling diaphragm gas spring, a non-return valve 17 allowing the gas above the liquid in the reservoir chamber 11 of the shock-absorber to flow into the gas spring chamber 1 and a non- return valve 8, 14 allowing the reverse flow. When the gas spring is heavily loaded the gas in the spring is under greater pressure than that in the shock-absorber and so passes past the piston-rod seal 8 and through a bore 14 into the reservoir chamber 11. When the load on the spring is removed, reducing the pressure of the gas in the spring below that in the shockabsorber, gas returns to the spring via the non-return valve 17. A baffle-plate 21 prevents liquid from entering the gas spring. The valve element is a section of rubber hose 19 (left-hand side of Figure) or an extension 20 of the rolling diaphragm 3 (right-hand side of Figure). The valve element is pre-stressed so that a certain excess pressure is maintained in the reservoir chamber 11.
