Abstract

1376719 Rotary mower MASSEY-FERGUSON-PERKINS Ltd 30 Nov 1971 [19 Dec 1970] 60428/70 Headings A1F and A1P A rotary mower is supported from below by a ground engaging bar 22 and is driven from above via a shaft 9. A hitch 14 is pivotally connected to one end 21A only of the rotor support bar 22, and the mower be mounted on tractor draft links 11, 12 so that in use the rotor assembly is offset to one side of the tractor. A dragbar 21 is bolted at one end to the underside of gearbox 5 and the other end of the bar is connected by pivot 21A to rotor bar 22. A break back 22A, which is dismantled when the rotor assembly is raised, permits the whole rotor assembly to swing rearwards about the axis of centre tube 16 if the rotors strike an obstruction. The rotors are driven by the p.t.o. shaft (not shown) of the tractor through first, second, and third bevel gearboxes 5, 6, 7 respectively and first, second, and third drive shafts respectively. Ground-engageable skids are secured to the underside of rotor bar 22 below each rotor, and the rotor bar supports the drive mechanism for the rotors. Part of this transmission member, which extends downwardly from a position above the rotor, is formed of aluminium. The hitch includes means for raising the rotors for transport. The draft links 11, 12 raise A-frame 15 via arms 17, 18 and lift lever 38, which is pivotally mounted on the frame, carries lift links 36, 37. The assembly is raised about an axis through spigot 48. After raising the rotors they can be manually swung rearwards, about the axis through centre tube 16, to a position ready for transport. In modifications a hinge 52 Fig. 6 (not shown) between rotors 2, 3 permits relative movement between the rotors and a four drum mower, with two pairs of rotors mounted on a rotor bar 62 Fig. 7 (not shown) is hinged between the two pairs of rotors. The rotors are driven by means of hydraulic motors.
