Abstract

1376436 Pneumatic classifier SATO SEISAKU-SYO KK 19 Nov 1971 53965/71 Headings B2H and B2P Apparatus for separating coarse and fine particles of a particulate mixture comprises a cylindrical housing 1, a rotatable disc 4 provided with radial vanes 5 located near the bottom of the. housing, means 2 for supplying the particulate material to the upper surface of the disc 4, means for blowing gas into the housing through an opening 6 below the disc, and at least one set of rotatable vanes 8 mounted in the housing above the disc 4. The disc 4 disperses the material fed to its upper surface, the material then being carried up to the vanes 8 on a spiral current of air. Separation then occurs, the fine particles passing out of the top of the housing through an opening 9 whilst the coarse particles fall down and are discharged through an outlet 22. In addition to their dispersing function, the disc 4 and vanes 5 also perform a separating function by virtue of the centrifugal effect. The edges of the vanes 5 may be bent out of alignment with the remainder of the vane, and may extend downwardly to form a pendant part 52. In operation, the peripheral speed of the vanes 5 is within 30% of the blowing rate of the air at the inlet 60. After leaving the housing 1, the fine particles may pass to a cyclone collector (C). A back filter (B) may also be provided, the arrangement being such that the blast from a fan (F) providing the air supply to the housing 1 may be completely or partially diverted to be purified and exhausted outwardly.
