Abstract

1376069 Carpet stretchers ROBERTS CONSOLIDATED INDUSTRIES Inc 21 Aug 1972 [23 Aug 1971 27 Dec 1971] 38955/72 Heading A4X A carpet stretcher comprises a head 10 having teeth 12, a shaft 14 connected to an adapter 16 on the head and sliding in a tube 32 that can be locked at the desired extension position in a tube 28, a lever 18 pivoted at one end to the adapter, and a link 22 pivoted at its ends to the tube 32 and to an intermediate point 36 on lever 18, the lever 18 being locked to the link 22 at a selected position by a pawl and ratchet means 42, 34 which is releasable to allow movement of the lever 18 and hence of the head 16. The ratchet comprises an arcuate rack 34 rigid with link 22 as shown, or with lever 18, and the pawl 42 is pivoted at 40 to the lever 18 as shown, or to the link 22. The pawl 42 is released against the bias of a tension spring 46 by a lever 48 pivoted on lever 18 and connected to the pawl by a rod 44. Alternatively, a rod may force the pawl into engagement against the bias of a compression spring. The head 10 comprises a plate 11 swivellably mounted to the adapter and locked thereto by a lever 17. A shoe 15 on plate 11 which bears against shaft 14 can be adjusted in height by a screw to vary the attitude of the plate 11.
