1374577 Welding by fusion, making welding electrodes BRITISH OXYGEN CO Ltd 26 Oct 1971 [26 Oct 1970] 50851/70 Headings B3R and B3A [Also in Division C7] The flux core of an arc-welding electrode having a tubular metal sheath, includes magnetised elongated particles of electrically conducing ferromagnetic material which constitute not less than 10% by weight of the complete electrode. Preferably, the particles are magnetic in flake, fibre or needle form and constitute between 15 and 30% by weight of the total electrode. Preferred core compositions are The sheath is made from manganese, carbon and iron and the electrode is formed by incorporating the core in a sheath of channel section, the iron particles being unmagnetised, closing the core and drawing. The particles are magnetised after insertion into the sheath in a fired or pulsating magnetic field from a permanent or electromagnet, during which the sheath may be vibrated.
