Abstract

1373842 Curtain coating apparatus ROBERT BURKLE & CO 21 Feb 1972 [4 March 1971] 7859/72 Heading D1L [Also in Division B2] A curtain coating apparatus comprises two coating heads 9, 19 mounted at right angles to each other and rotatable with a mounting column 16, so that one coating head can lie transversely with respect to a pair of feed conveyors 2, 5 whilst the other head lies parallel to and adjacent the conveyors. Coating head 19 can thus move from position 17 to position 20 and coating head 9 from operative position 17 to its inoperative position 18. Associated with each head is a supply drum 6 which may be mounted on roller guides or castors (not shown) to move with the colmn 16. Each supply drum has a pump 7 and motor 8 which feed the head through a supply line and a trough 10 is associated with each head to collect excess material and return it via a pipe 12 to the drum 6. When a head 9 is to be taken out of use it is lowered by a motor 24 so that catches 31, 32 on the head and trough respectively engage. The head is then lifted with the trough and rotated to its inoperative position before being lowered again. The column supporting the head may be rotated by means of a pneumatic ram 22. In a modification two coating heads may be provided on each arm so that two separate coatings are applied, these may consist for example of an adhesive and its appropriate hardener.
