1373783 Deposition of silicon carbide UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 25 Aug 1972 [7 Oct 1971] 46757/71 Heading C1A [Also in Division G6] Particulate refractory nuclear fuels are coated with #-SiC by pyrolysing a Si and C containing gaseous compound in the presence of a grain size reducing additive, e.g. P, Al, As, N2 or H2O, in a fluidized bed. The fluidizing atmosphere may comprise CH3SiCl3 and a H2/N2 gas mixture consisting of 10-20% vol. H2 and 90-80% N2. P may be incorporated in the fluidizing atmosphere by passing the organosilane containing gas through PCl3.
