Abstract
1373394 Building elements H J POEGEL 7 Oct 1971 [8 Oct 1970] 46638/71 Heading C1J Ceramic products are produced by admixing a ceramic raw mass (clay or other ceramic raw materials), with solid water glass together with a water-glass hardener, the formed mixture being then shaped dried and fired. The solid glass is formed from an aqueous water-glass solution by a hot-spray evaporation process. The water-glass, e.g. in an amount of from 2-40 wt. per cent based on the weight of raw ceramic material may be in the form of rigid balls (less than 1 mm. in diameter), may have a bulk density of from 60-100 g/l. and an SiO2:Na2O ratio of from 4À0:1 to 1À8:1. The water-glass hardener (e.g. 10-50% by wt. of the waterglass), may be silico-fluoride, ferrosilicon, metallic silicon, carbonic acid, HCl, H2SO4, ester of a mono-, di-, trivalent alcohol with acetic acid, propionic acid or butyric acid. Additives to the ceramic mass include liquid water-glass, oil, coal, quartz sand, quartz flour or perlite, leca or vermiculite. It is possible for the solid water-glass (and/or additives, if present), to be distributed irregularly in the ceramic mass.
