Abstract

1372119 Grinding VE WISSENSCHAFTLICH-TECHNISCHER BETRIEB KERAMIK 24 Nov 1972 54450/72 Heading B3D A machine for grinding ceramic articles, such as the bases of plates and dishes 10, comprises an endless feed belt 1 for carrying the articles to a grinding station having two or more horizontally rotating grinding devices 2 which are mounted in succession and vertically adjustable, the articles being transported through the grinding station to an endless discharge belt 3 by an endless sponge belt 4 positioned above and between the feed and discharge belts, the sponge belt having at least two pressure plates 5, 5<SP>1</SP> and spring-loaded tension means 6. The grinding devices are driven through thrust couplings 9, 9<SP>1</SP> by electric motors 11, 11<SP>1</SP> in opposite directions and are vertically adjustable to compensate for wear. The grain size of successive devices in the direction of transport is reduced. Plates 7, 7<SP>1</SP> and a roller 8 assist in the transfer of the articles from and to the feed and discharge belts and between the grinding devices as they are moved by the sponge belt 4 which is tensioned by a pulley 6 and urged towards the articles by the pressure plates 5, 5<SP>1</SP>.
