Abstract

1367583 Pile fabrics STANDARD BRANDS CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Inc 20 March 1972 [22 March 1971] 12942/72 Heading D1K [Also in Divisions B5 and C3] Adhesives for the lamination of textiles comprises a latex which has been extended by addition thereto up to 40 parts by weight per 100 parts of polymer solids of a mixture of (1) granular, cold water-insoluble starch (modified or un-modified), (2) urea and (3) borax, the weight ratio of starch: urea being in the range 1.2:1 to 5.1 and of starch: borax being in the range 1.5:1 to 12:1. The compositions usually contain a filler, e.g. whiting, and may also contain an extending oil, e.g. naphthenic petroleum oil, and a thickening agent, e.g. polyacrylonitrile. Suitable latices include butadiene/styrene, carboxylated butadiene/styrene latices and mixtures of two such latices, polyisoprene, copolymer of butadiene with various monomers and natural rubber latex. In Examples, such adhesives are used to laminate a secondary jute backing to tufted carpets comprising nylon loop pile tufted to jute backing. The secondary backing layer may also be woven or non-woven textile or foam rubber.
