Abstract
1365919 Pneumatic conveyers; hoppers H J LINDER 3 Aug 1971 [4 Aug 1970] 36468/71 Headings B8A and B8S [Also in Division F1] A hopper 1 for particulate or liquid material is supplied with pressurized air through a valve 20 and a duct 24 to shut a closure member 15 and thereby pressurize the hopper through ventilation devices 32, 33 and effect the discharge of the hopper. A vibrator (4), Fig. 2 (not shown), is adjustably mounted on the hopper to provide radial, tangential, axially or oblique vibration to the hopper to prevent bridging of the material therein. Pressurized air is also supplied to a valve 36, which delivers pulses of air to an impelling valve 3 situated at the outlet of the hopper to form pockets of material 37 alternating with pockets of air in a duct 7. Relay stations 11 are spaced along the duct 7, at a distance less than the column of material which can be moved by the available pressure, to replenish the pockets of air and to supply further air should a blockage occur in the duct. A low level detector 43 in the hopper 1 acts to control the valve 20 to vent the hopper and thereby open the closure member 15 to refill the hopper and start the cycle. The material is discharged into a further hopper 13 with upper and lower level detectors 44, 45 which act to operate the hopper 1. The discharge pipe 6<SP>1</SP> from the hopper 1 is bent to a radius of between 1¢ and 2D where D is the diameter of the duct 7.
