Abstract
1365803 Travelling grates POLYSIUS AG 13 Jan 1972 [2 March 1971] 1573/72 Heading F4B A travelling grate for heating or cooling granular material, e.g. ore pellets or cement comprises articulated grate elements 4 whose carrying surfaces 6 have transverse ribs 9 underneath, defining with said surfaces pockets 5, 5<SP>1</SP>, which, on the return run of the grate receive material falling through the upper run. Extending from the ribs 9 are ribs 10, 10a associated with spacing bushes 11, 11a and ribs 13, 13a associated with central spacing bushes 14. The grate elements 4 are united by pins 15 extending through the bushes 11, 11a and 14. A hopper 7 receives material from the pockets 5, 5<SP>1</SP> as the grate elements resume their upper run, said material being conveyed off for further use by an endless belt (8, Fig. 1) or by a shoot. The longitudinal ribs by which the grate elements are articulated may comprise a single central rib with one end bifurcated to receive the next adjoining rib (Figs 5 and 6), or side ribs with one end cranked to overlap the adjoining rib (Fig. 7). Another construction (Fig. 8) has alternate elements arranged with side ribs flush with the sides and with inset ribs so that said ribs overlap when the elements are assembled.
