Abstract

1365162 Card clothing SCHUBERT & SALZER MASCHINENFABRIK AG 2 Dec 1971 [17 Dec 1970] 55941/71 Heading D1N A taker-in roller 1 of a carding engine is clothed with saw-tooth wire some coils of which have their teeth sloping in the rotational direction and some in the anti-rotational direction. Suitable combinations are illustrated in Figs. 2a, 2b and 2c. These arrangements allow a combing action in addition to mere transfer of fibre. The invention also provides a method of manufacturing such a taker-in roller in which at least two pieces of clothing wire are wound round a roller such that the teeth are oppositely inclined. In one embodiment, Fig. 7, fibre transferred to the card cylinder T may be returned to the taker-in 1 by a cylinder 3, if the fibre has not been fully opened, for re-working. Stripper knives A 1 , A 2 are provided. Other embodiments are illustrated in Figs. 3, 4 and 8 (not shown). Suitable angles for the edges of the saw teeth are given and also suitable speed relationships for the cylinders.
