Abstract

1364862 Device for dispensing measured quantities of liquids J KENNEDY 3 May 1972 [13 May 1971] 14754/71 Heading B8N A device for dispensing liquid from an inverted bottle, comprises a transparent plastics measuring chamber 14, an air inlet valve 39 comprising a valve head 41 and a stem 38 of curved crosssection located in and making live contact with each of the sides of a bore 40 of straight sided cross-section, and a vertically movable plunger 27 carrying a valve member 35. When the plunger is moved upwardly the valve member 35 initially closes bore 13 of spigot 11 and then flange 37 engages and moves the stem 38 to open the chamber to atmosphere and communication between the chamber 14 and outlet bore 29 is established via bores 30. A resilient sealing washer 50 is located between resilient sealing rings 48, 49, and the washer and rings are held in position by a spring 52, which also biases the plunger downwardly, and a rigid metal washer 51. Arm 55, which in use is contacted by a glass to be filled, is mounted for limited movement relative to the plunger 27. A dovetail recess 24 may receive a strip carrying advertising material. The bore 40 may be triangular or rectangular (e.g. square) in cross-section and the stem 38 may be circular or oval in cross-section.
