Abstract
1364612 Vehicle positioning arrangement BROWN BOVERI & CIE AG 21 Sept 1972 [22 Sept 1971] 43856/72 Heading B7N In an arrangement for positioning a vehicle, e.g. a coke oven operating machine, at a point on a railway track defined by a cross-over K in alternating current carrying conductors 2 extending parallel to the track, any variation in the amplitude of the signal picked up by the vehicle carried pick-up coil 3 coupled to the conductors due to variation in distance between coil and conductors is compensated by varying the gain of an amplifier 6 in the output circuit of the coil. A second coil 4 carried by the vehicle in which the voltage picked up also varies with said distance is connected to a differential amplifier 7 in which the voltage is compared with a fixed voltage from source 11 and the output from the amplifier is used to control the gain of a variable gain amplifier 6 to which the output of coil 3 is applied via phase discriminator 5. The output from the amplifier controls an indicator showing the distance of the vehicle from the stop position and also controls the drive and brake elements to bring the vehicle to a halt when the picked-up voltage drops to zero. A rough positioning device (not shown) operating, e.g. by counting wheel revolutions brings the vehicle to a position close to the stop position at which the vehicle is switched to slow speed and the positioning apparatus shown is energized.
