Abstract
1363350 Coke quenching cars HEINRICH KOPPERS GmbH 9 Aug 1972 [17 Aug 1971] 37125/72 Heading F4B Coke from a horizontal coke oven battery is discharged into a receptacle mounted on a chassis 2 having wheels 3 which run on tracks 4 along the coke side of the battery. The chassis 2 supports an annular rotary drum 6 disposed within a casing 11, the drum having a U-shaped cross-section constituted by polyhedral shell 7 and side flanges 8, and the axis 5 of the drum being parallel with the axes of the ovens in the battery. Coke form the oven discharged into the drum through coke guides (14) and a charging opening in the casing 11 is carried by the rotation of the drum underneath nozzles 21 spraying water from a tank 22 to quench the coke. The interior of the drum 6 is also provided with partitions 24 dividing the drum into pockets, which when the drum is rotated carry coke to the upper part of the drum. The coke falls from the pockets onto a plate 25 which has a trap door 26, the coke being redirected to the bottom of the drum when the trap door is closed, but directed to a discharge shoot 27 extending to a discharge opening (28) in the casing 11 when the trap door is open.
