Abstract
1363263 Optical scanning XEROX CORP 15 Oct 1971 [15 Oct 1970] 48068/71 Heading G2J An optical scanner, which may be used in manufacturing a diffraction grating, comprises a source of collimated coherent light 10, a beamsplitter 12 and a mirror 16 whereby the two resultant beams 13, 15 form an interference pattern 29 in a plane 14, and means to displace the unsplit beam 11 together with control means 51-55 to regulate the displacement of the beam 11 thus causing the interference pattern 29 to scan over the plane 14. Preferably the displacement means are two parallel sided transparent plates 35, 36 mounted for rotation about orthogonal axes 57, 58. Alternatively a single plate 70 Fig. 6 may be used which is gimbal mounted. The drives for the plate or plates are reversible stepping motors 54, 55.
