Abstract
1361275 Measuring diameters A RAITERI 22 July 1971 [22 July 1970] 34393/71 Heading G1M By moving a pivoted handle 9, Fig. 2, in the direction a a cam 17 is caused to depress a pivoted lever 16 and a rod 32 carrying a feeler 8. At the same time a cam 18 causes a lever 21 to rotate clockwise to raise a collar 23 so that balls 25 are disengaged from the conical internal surface of the collar and the rod 24 released and lowered by the action of cam 19. The rod 24 slides a body 5 down a fixed bar 26 so that stop 6 is lowered, and the stop 7 is also lowered and retracted by the action of pins 27, 29 on the bar 26 and rod 30 respectively engaging the slots in a pivoted lever 28. As the stop 6 and feeler 8 are opened to accommodate a circle of increasing size the stop 7 remains on the circle circumference and at 90 degrees to 6 and 8. The whole measuring device 3, Fig.1, is positioned with a handgrip 31 by moving the device around a pin 11 and it may be raised by means of a lever 12 rotating about a pin 13. When a workpiece is to be measured the lever 9 is rotated in the direction of arrow b to bring 6, 7 and 8 into contact with the workpiece in the following manner. Cam 19 rotates clockwise allowing rod 24 to move upwards and bring 6 and 7 into contact with the workpiece. Cam 18 causes lever 21 to rotate anti-clockwise, lowering the collar 23 and locking the rod 24 by means of the balls 25. Cam 17 allows lever 16 to rotate in an anticlockwise direction so that 8 is only held against the workpiece by the spring 15. By rotation of the workpiece movement of 8 will operate electrical measurement transducers indicating variation in diameter. The stop 6 exerts the pressure it receives from a balancing spring 14 whereas the feeler 8 presses on the workpiece with the force provided by spring 15.
